Tech jargon every HVAC professional should know
It's embarrassing when your customer knows more about technology than you - so don't let it happen. Here are tech terms that every HVAC professional should know.
- Geothermal heat pump: it can also be called a ground source heat pump (GSHP) because it pulls heat from the ground or a body of water rather than outside air like a traditional heat pump.
- NATE certified: a third party certification which stands for North American Technical Excellence. It's like getting a master's degree in HVAC, and something you can be proud of.
- Bioaerosols: microscopic living organisms (bio) suspended in the air (aerosols) that multiply in warm, humid environments. These can include bacteria, viruses, allergens, and spores.
- MERV rating: (stands for Minimum Efficiency Rating Value) is a rating system for air filters. The bigger the holes in the air filter, the more particles that can pass through, and the lower the efficiency.
If these terms didn't come as a surprise to you, great! If they did, you might need to consider enrolling in the Virtual BuildATech program for a refresher.
