The Essential Service Call Checklist

Heading out on a service call? Here are a few things every technician needs before leaving the dealership.

For a smooth service call, remember these four Ps: proper tools, professional appearance, product information, and protective gear. Use our checklist to ensure you're ready to get the job done!

Proper tools. It probably goes without saying, but make sure you have the right tools for the job. During the cooling season, that means stocking capacitors, refrigerant, recovery tanks, and the tools for servicing air conditioners.

Your manifold gauges see quite a bit of use in the summer to check system pressures, so make sure they're clean and calibrated. For vacuum pumps, make sure they're working and that you're cleaning the oil after every job.

Professional appearance. In the HVAC industry, it's important to dress for success. Always wear a clean uniform so that you look professional and represent your company well. We recommend carrying an extra shirt or two in your truck, in case you get dirty between service calls. Don't forget shoe covers to avoid tracking dirt into a customer's home.

Protect your customers’ floors.

Get Shoe Covers

Product information. Every service call has a sales side, which is why you should always have product information with you. Maybe it's time for the customer to upgrade their equipment; you can let them know about promotions, give them product literature, and tell them all the details about products they may need.

Mobile technology, such as smartphones and tablets can really come in handy because they allow you to have all the information you need at your fingertips. Every technician should have the LennoxPROs app on their tablet or smartphone. It’s an essential tool when servicing Lennox equipment and looking for product information.

Search the Document Library in the LennoxPROs app for product specifications, user manuals and brochures.

Protective wear. As an HVAC tech, you work in high-risk environments with electricity, chemicals, and more. Safety should be your top priority, and you should always have the necessary protective gear and equipment for the job. Keep safety glasses, work gloves, and other gear on hand so you can be prepared to protect yourself from on-the-job injuries.

Work safely.
