Don't let this happen to you: HVAC shortage nightmare

Summer may be coming to an end, but the heat is persisting on. While air conditioning saves many from intense outside temperatures, it is not always reliable. In fact, a school was recently affected by an inefficient HVAC unit. Don't let your unit get in the way of a smoke detector or other important household protector.

Follow these tips to make sure your unit is safe:

  • Turn off all unnecessary lights, appliances, computers, monitors, and other electronic equipment.
  • When possible, close blinds that get direct sun, set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, and use fans to cool the air.
  • Avoid using your space heaters, dishwasher, laundry equipment, hair dryers, coffee makers, or other appliances during the peak hours of noon to 6 p.m.
  • Avoid opening refrigerators or freezers more than necessary.
  • Use a gas range or microwave for cooking instead of an electric range or electric oven.

Winter months are also brutal for HVAC units as well. Be sure to encourage all business and homeowners to exercise these tips year round in order to avoid shortages.
